Annie Hamilton, 100 years old on 7 November 1965

On Sunday, Mrs Annie Hamilton, Maymore, St Johnston, cut a cake brought specially from Canada by her daughter to celebrate her 100th birthday.

Up to 100 of her relatives from all parts of the country, England and Canada, met in the farmhouse where she resides.

Four generations of the Hamilton family reside in the farmhouse, Mrs Hamilton, her son, James, who is unmarried, her grandson and his wife, and four of her great-grandchildren.

Mrs Hamilton was born 100 years ago at Drumenan, a few hundred yards from where she presently resides. Her maiden name was McCausland, and she was one of a family of seven. She is the only survivor. Five members lived to be more than 80.

She had a family of nine, seven of whom are alive. Her husband, Mr William Hamilton, died thirty years ago.

“If anyone had told me twenty years ago that I would live to be 100 I would not have believed them”, said Mrs Hamilton.
