Madeline McCann
Crolly girl Eileen Ferry married Johnny McCann and they lived in St Johnston and
ran McCann’s bar on the Main Street. They had four children in Ireland. It came
to pass that the couple uprooted and went to Scotland permanently in 1967. Gerry
McCann (the father of missing toddler Madeleine) was born in Glasgow, Scotland
the very next year. The pub of course still needed running so the reins were
passed on to Johnny’s brother Hughie. Some time around 1980, Joe Peoples became
new manager of the bar upon leasing it from the McCanns.
Madeleine and her parents visited the pub in 2007.
Joe said in the aftermath of the disappearance of Madeleine, “She was just
running around all over the bar having a great time, up to all sorts.”
