St Johnston Carrigans Donegal Official
St Johnston and Carrigans villages are situated in East Donegal in Ireland. They are near the border with Derry/Londonderry. Set amid rolling hills, in the famed and fertile Laggan Valley which is fed by the River Foyle, these Plantation towns are rich in heritage and history.
There is the haunting Mongavlin Castle. The visit of King James II during the Siege of Derry is history and reads like legend. There is the majestic captivating Dunmore House. Rising above St Johnston there is the imposing Chapel of St Baithin. There is the daring and dramatic Glentown Quarry. Don't forget the schools which which bring you back in time. There is the simple and inspiring Monreagh Church famed for hosting the second oldest Presbyterian congregation in Ireland. Famously there is the Taughboyne site that was graced by Baithin and much much more.
There is the economic and social success that these villages achieved that must never be forgotten and which has put them on the map forever.
