Tragic Accident 1970

A 74 year old retired farmer, Wm Porter, of Legnathraw, St Johnston, received fatal injuries when the car which he was driving struck a telephone pole at a road junction in Convoy last Thursday evening. He died in the County Hospital hours later. An eyewitness of the fatal accident, Francis Kelly, of Convoy, said at 2.45 pm he was standing at the junction. Two cars were driving on the road. One of the cars attempted to pass, but in doing so collided with another car. It then veered across the road and struck the telephone pole beside where he was standing. Deceased was behind the wheel and he had a lady passenger with him. Both were taken by ambulance to the County Hospital. From Donegal News. Original published 18 April 1970.
