Save our Bus!: We wish to express our dismay at the discontinuation of the Mon –
Sat 9am bus route from Derry to Ballybofey. This service was one of the busiest
the area had and was used by local students who were travelling to the Royal and
Prior Comprehensive School and Deele College Raphoe and by the general public as
well. We intend to organise a Petition to be presented to Bus Eireann
authorities to have the route reinstated. We feel strongly that the cancellation
of the route is a blow to the social, educational and economic integration of
the St Johnston and Carrigans area. There was no prior notice or consultation
provided in relation to this decision. We intend to circulate a local petition
to allow people to put their name to the campaign to have the service restored.

to thank the Work Experience workers who were with us from 4 Jan 10 from the

Monagle, Cara Conway and Lisa McCarron. The staff boys and girls would like to
wish them well for the future.

Drop-In Centre: Local woman Alma O’ Donnell kindly made the following
contribution to the community notes regarding Drop in Centre for Cancer Patients
and their Families. As we approach the first anniversary of the opening of the
Good and New Cancer Shop in Grand Central, Letterkenny, it gives us enormous
pleasure to give an outline of the progress we have made in the last year since
opening in March 2009. Our aim is to help improve the quality of life for people
and their families who have been affected by cancer. Cancer is a family illness
which invariably for the people of Donegal involves travelling long arduous
journeys to Galway University Hospital or Dublin for their radiation treatment.
The phrase “We Travel or We Die” very much applies to them. To this end, we have
established a direct bus service to Galway taking the patients for treatment on
Monday morning and collecting them on Friday morning. Unfortunately this bus is
no longer adequate and we are actively and urgently seeking a larger bus. If
there are any of your readers willing to assist us in any way we will be very
grateful. To date we have purchased and delivered a Dinatab machine which is a
piece of equipment used for monitoring patients at Letterkenny, we have also
donated £5000 to the Donegal Hospice. None of this would be possible without the
generous support of you the readers and the wider public of Donegal. The Drop-In
Centre is a place where patients, their relatives, and friends can come and
avail of a cup of tea, pick up some literature provided by the Irish Cancer
Society, and - if they wish - avail of our confidential counselling service. The
Centre has been open since January 2010, and has been very well received by
those who have been availing of it, and is free. None of this would be possible
without the help of our dedicated team of volunteers pictured below, and of
course you the people whose generosity we appreciate, contact us on 9113437 or
087 6574585, from 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday.

Tiger Cups create history, Kildrum Tigers U16s created their own piece of
history when they won the Donegal Schoolboys Under 16s Champions League on April
7th when they overcame Iona in the final, winning 4-2 after extra time. The
Kildrum lads, managed by Johnny McGinty and Chris McNulty, had already won the
East Donegal U16 League and Cup double, meaning they have now won an
unprecedented treble haul of honours. A Michael Duffy hat-trick was the
difference between Kildrum and Iona in the final. Duffy scored twice in normal
time, in a 2-2 draw, but Kildrum took the prize in extra-time. They hit the
front again with a strike worthy of gracing any final. Daryl Browne got on the
ball and from the corner of the penalty area curled a crisp effort into the
bottom corner, before Duffy completed his hat-trick to seal a memorable win.
Kildrum Tigers U16 squad, 2009/10: Daryl Browne, Gareth Colhoun, Aaron Conrory,
Michael Duffy, Terence Feeney, David Friel, Willie Gillespie, Caolan Grant,
Charlie Harkin, Stephen Keys, William Lynch (captain), Jonathan McFeely, Shane
