MAURICE TOLAND HONOUR IN 1994
St Johnston’s Maurice Toland pictured receiving a watch from a sponsor after scoring for Finn Harps after just eight seconds of a Shield game against Drogheda United at Finn Park.
It is believed this remains the quickest goal ever scored by a Harps player.
Harps won the game - on September 3, 1994 - 1-0.
Also pictured is Jimmy Harte, the then Finn Harps Chairman.
In an interview some years later, Maurice remembered: “I was playing left-back that night and I went up to get on the end of a cross by Marty McGinley – Patsy (McGowan) did tell me to get forward as much as possible.”
Maurice Toland scored 15 goals in 97 appearances for Finn Harps.
