PEARL MILLAR'S FUNDRAISING TRIP

Holiday Trip raised £900 

A novel sponsorship was undertaken by Mr Billy Millar and his wife Pearl from St Johnston, Co Donegal, in aid of the St Johnston Social Services and Raphoe Central School where Mrs Millar is a member of the teaching staff.  With their children Alan (15), Gerda (10) and David (2 1/2), they set off for a motoring holiday to Scandinavia and organised sponsorship for the miles they would travel.  They were assisted in the organisation by Mrs Nan Alexander, Mrs Nelly McDaid, and Mrs Carmel Crawford, from Raphoe and Mrs Jean Buchanan, Mrs Florrie Patterson and Mrs Frances Freen, from St Johnston. The family journeyed as far as the Arctic Circle and to the Russian border on their trip, during which they took two car ferry voyages.  They covered a total of 4,776 miles and raised £900 in sponsorship.  Mrs Millar is pictured handing over a cheque for £500 to Mr Joe Peoples, the secretary/treasurer of St Johnston and Social Services at a presentation held in St Baithin's N.S., St Johnston.  Also in the group are, from left, Rev. Dr. Daniel Cunnea, P.P. who is a member of the committee.  Mr Ian McCracken,chairman, Mrs Maura O Ruirne, Public Health Nurse, St Johnston, and Rev. William Hanna, Minister, St Johnston who also a commitee member.
